The Calgren Dairy Fuels Biogas Plant collects manure-derived digester gas from local dairies. The biogas is conveyed through an underground piping network to the plant site where it is desulfurized, compressed and used as fuel for an onsite gas turbine and duct burner. Some of the gas is rendered pipeline quality by removing the CO2, further compressed and injected in the local utility pipeline. Electrical design services included the development of a self-regulating heat trace system for several pipelines.
PID was responsible for the piping design, layout, stress analysis and development of construction drawings for the piping installation. The plant came on stream in mid-2018.
SJV Biodiesel Facility Thermal Oil System Design
PID Engineering designed a hot thermal oil system for SJV Biodiesel plant in Pixley, CA. The thermal oil system operates at 250 psig, 700F to support biodiesel production. Mechanical design services included pump, tank, oil/steam generator and pipe sizing and layout; development of piping drawings;pipe stress analysis and commissioning support. 700F hot oil transfer fluid crystalizes at 53.6F. Electrical design services included the development of a heat trace system for the thermal oil system which included pipes, tanks, pumps and valves.
Plants 6 and 7, California Dairies, Inc., Visalia, CA.
PID Engineering performed mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for the conversion of an former Frito Lay plant into a milk receiving and processing plant for the production of powdered milk and butter for California Dairies, Inc., in Visalia, CA. Plant 6 was completed in 2008, Plant 7 was completed in 2010 and Plant 8 completed in 2015. PID's responsibilites included design of the utility piping, electric power distribution and plumbing design.
High Pressure, High Temperature Air System (San Diego, CA)
PID Engineering provided mechanical design of a 400 psig, 1,400°F air system for Solar Turbines in San Diego, CA. Responsibilities included compressed air system calculations; line sizing; pipe routing/support; pipe stress analysis; specification of pipe, valves, insulation and air heaters; and coordination of the electrical, structural and controls engineers for the project.
Natural Gas Molecular Gate System (Montebello, CA)

PID Engineering provided mechanical, electrical and structural design for the installation of a molecular gate system for the Southern California Gas Company's gas storage field facility in Montebello, CA. The molecular gate removes heavy (non-methane) hydrocarbons from well gas before being sent into the Gas Company's distribution system to local customers.
Distillation Unit (San Diego, CA)
PID Engineering provided mechanical, electrical and structural design engineering services to Sithe Energies (Capital Power) for the installation of a water distillation unit, cooling tower and steam condenser at its 32nd St. Naval Station cogeneration facility. Scope included the design/layout of the distillation unit, cooling tower, condenser, cooling water pumps, all associated piping, stress analysis of the steam piping, equipment foundation design, platform layout, controls design, and electric power feed to all equipment including electrical plans and wiring diagrams.
Thermal Oxidizers (San Diego, CA)

PID Engineering provided mechanical and electrical design engineering services to Solar Turbines, Inc. for the installation of two (2) thermal oxidizers (gas turbine exhaust incinerators) at its Kearny Mesa production facility. Scope included the design, layout and stress analysis of several hundred feet of 1,000ºF, 6 ft. diameter gas turbine ducting and control dampers and the design engineering for electric power to the equipment.
High Temperature, High Pressure Hot Water System (San Juan Capistrano, CA)

High Altitude Test Cell Facility (San Diego, CA)

PID Engineering provided preliminary mechanical and electrical engineering design services for the design of a high altitude test facility for Hamilton-Sundstrand. Responsibilities included preliminary specifications and performance calculations for a 4,000 hp vacuum compressor system, a twin 1,500 hp compressor/turboexpander system to provide cold air at -80ºF, equipment layout, site plan, single line diagrams and developing equipment and engineering budget costs.
California Steel Industries, Inc. Motor Upgrade (Fontana, CA)
PID Engineering provided electrical engineering services for the replacement of several large motors (5,000 HP to 6,500 HP) at the California Steel Inc. steel mill in Fontana, California. Work included as-builting existing site equipment, cable sizing, change-out of medium voltage switchgear, conduit/wiring/grounding diagrams and startup support.
